Strings Week: Everything Hummed

About

We recorded strings for the new record in a deconsecrated chapel that costs less than a rehearsal room and sounds like heaven’s foyer.

Velvet on a work shirt

Hearing a cello take the line I usually hum under verse two was like watching someone hang velvet on a work shirt. Too much, I thought — until the second pass, when the players leaned back and left space, and the songs stayed mine, just warmer.

We kept the sound of the radiator ticking in the quiet bars. It’s on the record. Listen for it.
